Propyl Thyracil - clinical reference
A licensed healthcare practitioner can help you understand what applies to your specific situation.
The usual adult starting dose of Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) is 50 mg to 100 mg every 8 hours, with increases as necessary up to a maximum of 500 mg daily or as directed by your doctor. When doses larger than 300 mg per day are needed, the medication should be taken every 4 to 6 hours. Children's doses are based on their body weight.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose or schedule different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important to take Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) should not be stopped suddenly but should be withdrawn over a period of 1 to 2 months under the direction of your doctor.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Store Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.
In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some adverse effects, notably: it may cause spots or redness of the skin; it may cause dizziness - use caution when getting up from a lying or sitting position and use caution if driving; it may cause a general feeling of weakness; it may alter your sense of taste; it may cause nausea and vomiting. Each person may react differently to a treatment. If you think this medication may be causing adverse effects (including those described here, or others), talk to your health care professional. He or she can help you to determine whether or not the medication is the source of the problem.

- are allergic to Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) or any ingredient of the medication
- are breast-feeding
There may be an interaction between Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) and any of the following:
- bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)
- beta-blockers (e.g., Atenolol, Metoprolol, Propranolol)
- Cladribine

- medications that contain iodine
- Mesalamine
- theophyllines (e.g., Aminophylline, Oxtriphylline, Theophylline)
- Warfarin
If you are taking any of these medications, speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Depending on your specific circumstances, your doctor may want you to:
- stop taking one of the medications,
- change one of the medications to another,
- change how you are taking one or both of the medications, or
- leave everything as is.
An interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. Speak to your doctor about how any drug interactions are being managed or should be managed.
Medications other than those listed above may interact with Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil). Tell your doctor or prescriber about all prescription, over-the-counter (non-prescription), and herbal medications you are taking. Also tell them about any supplements you take. Since caffeine, alcohol, the Nicotine from cigarettes, or street drugs can affect the action of many medications, you should let your prescriber know if you use them.
Before you begin using a medication, be sure to inform your doctor of any medical conditions or Allergies you may have, any medications you are taking, whether you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you should use Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil).
Blood counts: Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) can decrease the number of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell that helps fight infection), red blood cells (which carry oxygen), and platelets (which help your blood to clot). If you notice any signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, or sore throat) or unusual bleeding or bruising, contact your doctor immediately.
Hypothyroidism: Your dose of Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) will be reduced or temporarily discontinued by your doctor if signs of hypothyroidism (such as weight gain, clumsiness, and intolerance of cold temperatures) occur during treatment.
Inflamed blood vessels: Rarely, Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) can cause blood vessels to become inflamed. This inflammation can cause changes to the blood vessels, reducing blood flow and possibly causing scarring, weakening, or narrowing of the blood vessels. This can result in organ or tissue damage. If you experience any unexpected side effects, such as difficulty breathing, rash, blood in the urine, or coughing up blood, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Kidney problems: If you have kidney problems, discuss with your doctor how Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil), and whether any special monitoring is needed.
Liver function: Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) may reduce liver function and can cause liver failure. If you have liver problems, discuss with your doctor how Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil), and whether any special monitoring is needed. Your doctor may want to test your liver function regularly with blood tests while you are taking Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil).
If you experience symptoms of liver problems such as fatigue, feeling unwell, loss of appetite, nausea, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools, abdominal pain or swelling, and itchy skin, contact your doctor immediately.
Size of thyroid gland: Tell your doctor if the size of your thyroid gland increases during treatment with Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil). An enlarged thyroid gland is a sign that you may need a lower dose of the medication.
Pregnancy: Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while taking Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil), contact your doctor immediately. Women who may become pregnant should use effective birth control while taking Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil).
Breast-feeding: Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil) passes into breast milk. If you are breast-feeding and are taking Propyl Thyracil (Propylthiouracil), it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.

I reached out to a Pocketpills regarding some issues I was experiencing with my skin. The pharmacist assisting me got back to me within the hour. She was helpful in suggesting remedies and providing instructions. The prescription was filled instantaneously. The entire process was perfect - amazing communication, live updates through text, phone and email. The reminders were extremely helpful. Delivery was efficient and seamless. I felt cared for every step of the way. Thank you for everything
I wanted to make a change to the formulation of my prescription and the pharmacist promptly made the changes necessary to adapt my prescription to suit my skin. And delivered 2 days before scheduled. Thank you!

This is our first time experience of using Pocketpills. It was very convenient to prescribe the acne medication with pharmacist, rather than to have a long wait with a doctor. Thank you for the fast delivery and service!
Very reliable with fast shipping! The app is easy to use, fees are fair, and there is excellent communication! Highly recommend.

I got my prescription delivered for free within 4 business days. All went smoothly which was pretty good. This was easy and I will use it again.
Great and fast service. It's cheaper and easier than going to a pharmacy.
Time is the currency of life. Pocketpills gives me my time back. 100% recommend!
Super easy, lower prices, real Dr review. The pharmacist even reached out to me about my dosage. I feel very comfortable and well looked after by people who seem to actually care. It's been a great experience. So much so that I've recommended Pocket Pills to my friends and family.
Fast delivery even before estimated delivery date. Its great not having to go to a physical pharmacy. I highly reccommend pocketpills

I really, really appreciate this service, it makes staying on top of my medication so much easier. The team has also always been kind and helpful to me in every interaction I've had. The free shipping is incredibly nice, they keep me informed about the shipping process for my medication, and they manage my refills and contact my doctor if necessary. It takes a lot of little stresses off my plate, especially as someone with ADHD who is not the best at managing these little stresses. The app is also nicely organized and easy to use, and I can communicate with a pharmacist through text or call whenever I need. Not to be dramatic, but Pocket Pills has genuinely improved my life!
Pocketpill makes it easy and efficient to ship and deliver on time. Medication shouldn't be a source of stress - something Pocketpill seems to understand
I received all my prescriptions as promised, delivered straight to my door. So much easier than it ever has been to get my pills. Thanks!

Very fast and efficient service. They are good at communicating with you about your needs. Very helpful and supportive
